KidVid 2012: Kids Music Video Tournament (Round Something/Day Whatever)

After all the roughhousing, horseplay, and shenanigans we went through during our first round of voting in KidVid 2012, where else can this tournament possibly go? I mean…who can forget the way Steve Weeks’ mom called the cops on Todd McHatton for toiletpapering the Weeks’ house? Or the way Steve retaliated by covering Todd’s dad’s car with shaving cream and baloney? Clearly, the quest for Number One is making our favorite kindie performers crazy. But we press on, because we are journalists, and living dangerously is what we do. (Except when 3rd & Bird is on. Or Octonauts. Other than that, totally dangerous around here.)

Where were we? Oh yeah, another round of voting! Once more, it’s time for you to do your patriotic duty and send one video on to the next bracket while casting another into the cold, inky blackness of defeat. CHOOSE WISELY.

The polls stay open until 10 PM tonight, at which point we will deliver the results to Zooglobble in a bag that we set on fire before ringing the doorbell. When you’re finished here, be sure and visit Hilltown FamiliesGooney Bird KidsOut With The KidsAges 3 and Up!, and Saturday Morning Cereal Bowl! for more hot voting action!

“The Garbage Pail Kids” Will Return to Theaters

In 1986, when I was in seventh grade, Garbage Pail Kids were all the rage, and I was one of the most avid collectors in my school (much to my parents’ chagrin).

By the time The Garbage Pail Kids Movie came out in August of 1987, I couldn’t have cared less (and judging from the box office receipts, those feelings were shared by most of my peers). Ultimately, it went down as one of the worst flops (and critical disasters) in the history of modern film.

I guess what I’m saying is this: My jaw dropped a little when I read that the Tornate Company, a production shingle run by ex-Disney CEO Michael Eisner, is planning a new Garbage Pail Kids Movie. I mean, it’s obvious that Hollywood has an unquenchable thirst for easily rebooted brands, but the Garbage Pail Kids? Really? How can anyone expect this to end well?

One positive sign: The new-look Garbage Pail Kids Movie is being directed by PES, (aptly) described by Collider as an “acclaimed creator of a number of stop-motion animated shorts.” So if nothing else, it should at least look better than the original film, which was unrelentingly cheap and ugly. On the other hand, I’m not sure Garbage Pail Kids were ever supposed to be anything but cheap and ugly.

Take a look at a PES short — and the trailer for the original Garbage Pail Kids Movie — below. Will you be watching the reboot?

KidVid 2012: Kids Music Video Tournament (Round 1/Day 1)

Because dozens of other kindie site owners were sick, missing, or unwilling to participate, we’ve been asked to help host this year’s KidVid Kids Music Video Tournament — and because we love nothing better than pitting friendly-seeming entertainers against one another in bloody brawls to decide ultimate cultural supremacy, we happily agreed. After constructing a Thunderdome-style battle cage at Dadnabbit HQ, we were sad to discover that KidVid doesn’t involve actual battling; in fact, it’s all about voting (which includes us installing a voting plugin and learning how to use it — we were told there would be no learning).

Anyway, the fun starts today, with a pair of contestants hoping for your vote in Round One (Ella Jenkins Region). Watch! Vote! In that order! We’ll keep the polls open until 10 PM tonight, after which we will deliver a locked box containing the results and live pigeons to the tournament coordinators at Zooglobble. Everyone likes live pigeons, right?

WHO WILL BE CROWNED THE ULTIMATE CHAMPION? We have no idea, but we’re writing in Billy Squier’s “Rock Me Tonite” wherever we have a chance.
